Lloyd’s of London, known as Lloyd’s, was founded in 1686 and is an insurance and reinsurance market located in London, United Kingdom, that operates globally.
Underwriters at Lloyd’s have licenses in Illinois, Kentucky, and the US Virgin Islands and are approved surplus lines insurers in all US states and territories. Lloyd’s is also an accredited reinsurer in all 50 states.
Other insurance companies often use Llyods to back all or part of their own insurance products. Lloyd’s does not offer direct-to-consumer insurance products but rather is the financial backing to insurance plans.
